Activities & Events – Autumn/Winter 2026

This section provides a non-exhaustive list of activities and events taking place near our holiday cottage. Whether you're staying at Gertrude & Friends, live in the area, love exploring the region or are just passing through, feel free to find some inspiration here!

🦌 Open daily

  • Hélécine Provincial Park – 8 am to 7 pm (free admission).

  • Heldenland (Land of Heroes) – 8 am to 8 pm (free admission) – Tienen.

 

October

  • Until 25 October – Dreaming… Beyond Nightmares – Jodoigne – Free exhibition as part of the Décalé cultural event.

  • Until 8 November – Opening Doors – Jodoigne – Free exhibition featuring five artists and creators.

  • 16–18 October – International Music Festival of Jodoigne – Jodoigne – Classical music festival.

  • 16 October–8 November – Héléween: Les Noces de Brume – Hélécine – Immersive 90-minute Halloween experience inside the castle.

  • 17 October – Walking Dead Role-Playing Game – Jodoigne – Free introduction to role-playing games, ages 16 and up.

  • 17 October – Build Your Own Birdhouse – Hannut – Nature-themed, zero-waste workshop at the Ancienne Piscine.

  • 19–23 October – MiaBW Holiday Workshops – Hélécine – Archaeology workshops and an introduction to Roman times for children.

  • 21 October – Hagherock 2026 – Tienen – Inclusive music festival at the Manege, featuring De Romeo's, Yves Segers and other performers.

  • 26–30 October – Fairy Tale Holiday Camp – Hannut – Creative activities for children aged 6–10, exploring fairy tales, dragons and fantasy characters.

  • 30 October – Halloween Teddy Bear Storytime – Incourt – Storytelling session for children aged 2–5, from 6 pm to 6:45 pm.

  • 30 October – Suikercorrida – Tienen – Festive running event as part of the town's celebrations.

  • 31 October – Halloween in Jodoigne – Jodoigne – Family activities, Halloween parades and a show on the Grand-Place. Registration-only activities are fully booked, but the parades and show are free to attend.

  • 31 October – Halloween Parade in Villers-le-Peuplier – Hannut (Villers-le-Peuplier) – Halloween parade starting at 6 pm.

November:

  • Until November 8 – Héléween – The Mist Wedding – Hélécine – Last dates of the grand immersive Halloween show at the castle.

  • Until November 11, on certain days – Ibilaw at Walibi Belgium – Wavre – Halloween with haunted houses, scary zones, shows and nighttime events.

  • November 7 – Musical quiz and DJ evening – Jodoigne – Festive evening organised by the Jodoigne carnival.

  • November 8 – Guided walk with Joseph Tordoir – Jodoigne – Free discovery of Jodoigne's heritage with a local historian.

  • November 15 – Yaaba – Jodoigne – Show suitable for ages 4 and up.

  • November 15 – Outletbeurs – Tienen – Bargain and clearance fair at La Manege.

  • November 28 – Star Wars role-playing game – Jodoigne – Free introduction to the Star Wars universe, from age 16.

  • November 28 – Arrival of Saint Nicholas – Tienen – Festive welcome of Saint Nicholas in the city center.

 

December and the end-of-year holidays

  • November 27–December 30 – Wintermagie – Tienen – Christmas atmosphere and winter entertainment on the Grand-Place.

  • December 4–6 – Hannut Christmas Market – Hannut – One of the largest covered Christmas markets in Belgium, with 225 stalls of local artisans, creators and producers.

  • December 11–13 – Christmas Market – Ramillies – Chalets, artisans and festive atmosphere. 2026 dates to be confirmed.

  • December 11–13 – Christmas Craft Market – Jodoigne – Local crafts, original creations and gift ideas in the exceptional setting of the Notre-Dame du Marché Chapel and the Hôtel des Libertés.

  • December 19–20 – Orp-le-Grand Christmas Market – Orp-le-Grand – Friendly craft market, local products and Christmas treats in the heated town hall.
